Press coverage and more: read what attendees said about Startup Summit 2019

November 16, 2019

With more than 1000 attendees, nine workshops, three stages, over 30 speakers and 30 exhibitors at Assembly Rooms on 30th October 2019, Startup Summit was the place to be!

In her roundup article for The Herald, Kim McAllister doesn’t shy away from our favourite quote from the day:

'“Only 1% of investment goes to all-female teams – that is f***ing abominable,” she [Marta Krupinska, Head of Google for Startups] stated, to cheers from the audience.’

“We are so excited to have won the Startup Summit Competition. It is fantastic timing for us as we raise our profile and mission to capture the voice of the patient and drive the effective use of medicines around the world.Dr Elizabeth Fairley, Co-founder & COO, Talking Medicines

Elizabeth and Talking Medicines received a business support package worth over £220k from Johnston Carmichael, AAI EmployAbility, STV, The Herald, Dentsu Aegis Network and IBM. She will also receive a fully-funding place on FutureX’s Silicon Valley Scale, an immersive growth programme for tech for good leaders.

PurposeHR - A Roundup of SUS19

You may remember PurposeHR from their exhibition stand and workshop at SUS19 - but they also found the time to take away learning their own, too!

‘Our HR Consultant, Marina Horner, attended a workshop by Johnston Carmichael – “A piece of the pie: incentivising your people & their performance via share schemes”. It was interesting to see how share options as part of individual compensation packages can help establish and push towards a long-term vision. They can also support building a sense of responsibility and positively influence retention.’

‘The continued rise and success of Scotland’s tech startup scene has, by and large, coincided with huge changes to consumer culture and awareness. Increasingly, consumers around the world are growing more appreciative and supportive of businesses with which they share common values.’

DIGIT chats with FutureX’s own Bruce Walker to discuss the rise of values-led business practices and growing consumer awareness.
